LJ IDOL WEEK 9

edge·lord ˈej-ˌlȯrd. plural edgelords. slang. : someone who makes wildly dark and exaggerated statements (as on an internet forum) with the intent of shocking others.

CW: suicide, mental health issues, abuse, murder and violence.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Her - age 17.

She doesn't care.

She really doesn't.

Not about them, or their opinions.

They act like they disbelieve this of course, and that doesn't shock her. Why would they ever believe their opinion isn't important enough to matter to her?

When she tells them she doesn't care what they think of her, or herlifestyle choices she's met with verbal abuse.

That's their God given right they believe.

At home - courtesy of both controlling parents - sometimes her father's fists if that takes the older man's fancy, or the mother's slaps.

"We brought you into this world, we can take you out of it!"

At school.

From idiots in her class who think high school is gonna matter in the grand scheme of life.

Kids who don't realize it's only important to people like her mom, who peaked at the age of sixteen and eyes up the pool lifeguard in a way that only an unsatisfied wife would. Or like her dad, living for the moment the way too young for them cashier at the market smiles at him- she's just doing her job - and fantasizing that maybe this girl is actually waiting for him to go buy ingredients for meatloaf.

The future is now her teachers keep telling them.

They're exactly one year away from graduating high school. They'll be adults soon. Don't they know they're supposed to have everything figured out by that age?

It's only the rest of their lives, after all.

No pressure.

As a kid whenever anybody asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up, she only ever had one answer.

"I wanna fly."

The adults ether indulged or laughed, depending on the setting.

Bur all she ever dreamed of was being able to fly far,far away from the suburban existence that somehow always felt like a trap.

The adults would never admit it, but they envy her youth.

The honesty she speaks, often brutal in its nature.

Her freedom from the shackles of life in suburbia that bind them to the lives they built out of fear, desire for security or just the simple notion that this would be enough, when in actuality it hasn't been enough for a very long time.

The kids her own age feel a similar way.

Why isn't she worried about the future?

Why does she think she's so special?

The thing is, she doesn't.

The reason she doesn't worry or care about the future?

Because she knows she doesn't have one.

Or rather, she's seen the kind of future available to her, decided she doesn't want it and that none is preferable.

There's no money for college and her grades were never good enough for scholarships. The middle child sandwiched between the golden sister and the baby brother.

A fill in. A ghost. An unfinished page in her parents' perfect life story.

Destined to become a footnote in her own.

Her - age 27.

She cares even less these days which sometimes makes her laugh.

A mirthless one that never reaches that genuine pitch. It's hollow to her own ears. An echo in an empty house. A dog barking in the distance.

A decade is a long time to wear down an already fatigued mind and heart.

The Mustang slices through the desert like a blade in the dark and behind its wheel, she thinks back over everything that led her to this point.

She'd always heard your life flashes before your eyes before dying.

One last trip down memory lane can't hurt.

She thinks of her parents always nagging her for not having any clear goals, for not being more like her siblings, for never caring enough.

Her high school years being the utter inverse of the best days of her life, as she was always informed they would be.

Every dead-end job and relationship she's had.

Some highlights reel.

She sighs, exhaling into the breeze that surrounds her and fans her blonde hair out around her like a halo.

Up ahead the road stretches out before her, seemingly into oblivion, kissing the sky at the edge of the horizon where heat waves bounce.

She swerves when the oncoming car does the same, the other a reluctant player in the game of chicken she initiated.

The other driver loses control and their car flips over, rolling once, then twice before it lands on its roof at the side of the highway.

She laughs, blue eyes meeting her own gaze in the rearview mirror, watching that other car erupt into flames behind her.

In the distance there's the all too familiar wail of sirens that have been tailing her on and off over the past three days.

This seems like as good a time as any to put an end to all this.

She's getting tired now.

In truth, she's been tired for a long time.

The kind of tired that runs bone deep and settles behind your ribcage as a dull ache.

Turning the car around, she accelerates, drives towards the cop cars.

One final game of chicken.

In that final five minutes that encapsulate the end of her short life though, a funny thing happens.

It happens so swiftly that she doesn't even have time to think, just feel.

Truly feel.

It's only when she realizes that this time she is going to die, that she notices how blue the sky is, how the flowering cacti at the side of the road are in bloom, adding color to a sun bleached landscape.

She feels the wind in her hair as her vehicle hits the squad car in a head on collision.

It caresses her skin as he sails through the air, for a brief moment suspended in time, weightless.

"I'm flying," she thinks before her body hits the tarmac.

And she smiles.

fiction.

After going back and forth on a different idea for this prompt, I chose in the end, to write asubversion of the edgelord, because I'm contrary like that. Rather that this being someone who is being edgy for shock tactics, I wanted it to be someone who is in pain, but no one really cares to see that, because they're too concerned about themselves, and then wind up shocked when the extreme happens.

Inspired in part by growing up in an extremely small and repressed place, some angsty feelings I experienced as a teenager, and a beautiful conversation I had with [personal profile] inkstainedfingertips about one of both our favorite movies, American Beauty. (Thank you for inspiring me <3)

Properly getting into a new fandom maybe? And what that brings me (it's excitment and fear)

It has been a while since the last time I could say 'hey, i now write for a new fandom for more than one fic'. I have a feeling I have finally reached that point after the years of of only being into idv. Which is nice. Having some guys on my mind that are not my idv ships is nice. I love having more options to choose from, to pick what fandom or ship i wanna work on, but also, knowing me, this is a double-edged sword.

It has been almost 3 whole years since I started writing for idv. The infamous 'three-year curse' time period is approaching this December. It's a now or never point, how I approach this is important. I'd rather not throw away all the work I've put into my idv works, to fully put them aside for the sake of something new. Now is the time to truly learn how to balance this out, to be able to write for more than one fandom at a time, to not throw all I used to love away and never look at it again like I usually do.

I really like Limbus Company. It's a Project Moon game after all, there's an amazing story behind it. The previous games had an amazing story too (disregarding how awfully Lobotomy Corporation feels to play at times) and it's hard not to get into it, even if you first start playing for the sake of gameplay or the gatcha aspect.I'd be lying if I sad that I don't see myself writing more for it. A single fic I did so far is a lot longer than what I'd usually do for a one off fic, it's a sign this is going somewhere more serious. And considering how much I already like Gregor and Sinclair, I can see myself staying here for a while.

I need to learn how to manage this. This is the time. It's really now or never for me. Gonna have to embrace the multifandom aspect of myself, because that's the only way this is gonna work at all.

Unlike the Cylons, I have a plan

Work is being crazy again. I am ending up taking over a second project, because the person who's supposed to be on that project does not grok how far we are behind, how fast we need to move to catch up, or what we need to do in order to do so. I don't know what the deal with this project is that people just sit on their hands and do nothing for it. I am probably being really bossy and obnoxious right now, but the alternative seems to be nothing getting done, and it's already behind schedule. I need to clone myself. 😭

On the other hand, fandom's gotten crazy too of late, so here's where all that is:
  • Exchanges due in September/October ([community profile] enemiestoloversex, [profile] cuppajoexhange, Come in a Flash, [community profile] sexpollenplus, [community profile] ficinabox + mystery pinch-hits and treats + future sign-ups): Yes, I did sign up for Come In A Flash, despite reason. I've been good about not signing up for other things, though! I got 2 things done last week, so I'm now at 3/14. I have my main assignment for FIAB, but I don't know about swaps yet: 10 of those 14 are currently FIAB, but the 10 number many change once I know my exact swaps. My goals are to finish the 1 non-FIAB assignment this week and then 2k worth of my original assignment for FIAB, which would put me in good position for getting/sorting out my swaps once they come in. I mostly only requested things I had very solid ideas for, so once I've got my final list, I'll need to finish ~2k worth per week. We'll see how that goes!

  • July/August reveals: The last few of these are trickling in. I've only got 1 left to edit, and that'll be this week. Last week [community profile] nonconex revealed, and I wrote Dishonored: The Untamed, Wen Chao making Wen Zhuliu non-con Jiang Cheng.

  • Upcoming potential exchanges: [community profile] fffx, [community profile] ififitsifics, and [community profile] trickortreatex have sign-ups now and/or soon-ish. It looks like there might not be anything for me to write for for the first 1-2, though. There's also Hanahaki Flash coming up, which is a theme I love, but I really shouldn't do with everything else so I'll keep an eye on it. [community profile] omegaverseexchange & [community profile] eatdrinkmakemerry are opening nominations soon, so I'll throw in my usual suspects. [community profile] yuletide_admin & [personal profile] amperslashexchange nominations are a bit after that. I didn't sign up for [community profile] fandomgiftbasket but there were some cool requests, so I'll see if I have time. I am already pretty booked through Oct with FIAB, though.

  • Exchanges beyond the current Sept/Oct time period are: [community profile] au5k & [community profile] highadrenalineexchange.

  • Still nothing to report on Femslash Salad Bar...

  • I'm 1/3 through BNHA S7: Lots of plotty stuff, still good (and I'm long since spoiled for almost everything by the manga now, lol). Still my current obsession, though, and I'm going to try to finish S7 this week, so I'm all caught up!

  • I finished The Witness for the Dead and absolutely loved it! I was not expecting a straight-up murder mystery, so that was a pleasant surprise. It had also been long enough that I'd forgotten that Thara Celehar was gay, so the side gay romance was a double bonus! Now I just have to wait for the next book to make its way up my library queue - hopefully it won't take as long this time.

  • Wen Guan by Qi Xiao Huangshu - No progress on this since there's no return date on it, so it's lower priority. 😝 I'm going to try to make a goal of making some progress on this: it would be nice to get it done before the next Goblin Emperor book comes up.

  • Still haven't planned my horror line-up - maybe next week when I have more time. If nothing else, I've got a number of things left over in my queue from last year.

Goals for this week: 1) Finish the 1 non-FIAB assignment. 2) 2k worth of FIAB. 3) Edit the 1 thing for July/August. 4) Finish BNHA. 5) Make actual progress on Wen Guan.

Small Web September Check-In 1 - Links

Ah, links. The way we share things on the internet. I feel a lot of people on indie web love links as a way to share stuff in general, sites, resources etc, which is quite nice. I do like looking through them from time to time, though I mostly like looking for site links rather than anything resource-related or anything else. I already spend a lot of time doing things like that in real life, so online it's not my thing.

I have my own little link page that mostly has fandom-related links, some resource links that i really just use a lot when looking for stuff and at the end some random links to thinks I like that don't fit either categories. Call it a personal bookmark page except it's shared with everyone online.

I am actually not too fond of big links pages, it distracts me too much. Too much going on, I will get lost and forget what I was doing in the first place. It's a nightmare for an ADHD person which is why I do tend to just not do it unless I have to. Even bookmark navigation on PC is a struggle. I'm a person who doesn't like too much stuff going on on my screen and a lot of open windows with different links are one of the things that are not good for me lol. I keep mine mainly cause I know fandom nowadays is shit, it's hard to find events that aren't anti run and won't harass you for what you like outside of the event, so having links to events like that is important to me to show people that, it's still not all horrible. We're still doing something. Hand in there buddy!

That's all for now at least. Links can be fun, but in moderation cause it gets too much at some point.

Small Web September - goals

I didn't post this originally when on time and only did it for the community, so now reposting here.

Project(s): Garden of eden - personal website & Blue Garden - fanfic archive
What are you hoping to work on for SWS? Work on more writing for the main site, archive all of my Bungou Stray Dogs fics, archive more of my identity v fics, possibly more smaller things to consider.

Pretty short but there's really not much for me.

Photograph of steel spoons and spices in a dramatic setting with added text that gives it the look of a gourmet magazine cover: September 2025. Food & Cooking, at Fancake. Steel teaspoons are arranged in an elogated oval to suggest a fish, with the bowls acting as scales and some of the handles left visible to create the fins and tail, giving the creature a spiky appearance. The concave bowls are dusted with a powdery orange spice for color and one spoon at the front of the fish is filled with a coarse black spice to create an eye. The fish is on a black surface with a rough texture and around it are three skinny green peppers, a mound of salt, a mound of orange spice, and a dipping bowl filled with a clear amber liquid.

Kantayra ([personal profile] kantayra) wrote2025-09-02 08:48 am

Well, Technically...

Monday was a holiday, so I'm not really late, right?

Anyway, I have important news today: This morning the ice rink I usually go to was closed for its annual maintenance, so instead I went running. During this run, I saw 9 bunnies (which is also important, but fairly typical at dawn this time for year), but I also encountered an orange kitty! That was chasing a chipmunk (which is somewhat unfortunate), but the chipmunk ran up the tree right next to me. So then it was just me and the kitty. I said, "Kitty! You're a kitty! Hello, kitty! \o/" as is required by law and, instead of shunning me with that "ewww, human!" look that 90% of kitties do, this kitty decided to deign me with its presence (most likely because it knew it could completely bork my run time this way). The kitty immediately coated the legs of my running pants with a thick layer of fur all around the ankles, and then proceeded to deploy its lethal tummy trap! However, I am wise to the ways of kitties and knew well that the fluffy tummy was a sign that I was instead supposed to scritch it behind the ears and also on its butt right above its tail. I did so correctly, and the kitty deemed me worthy for it to roll around on its back all over my shoe for a good five minutes. Then, at last, when the kitty was satisfied that it had waylaid me thoroughly, it got up and saw Something Interesting (TM) across the street. Therefore, it ignored me entirely but choose to further demonstrate how I was its servant by standing with its back paw on my hand so that I could not possibly move. This also went on for a good five minutes before the kitty released me from my indentured servitude to go off and do kitty things. And then I finished my run. However, I do not believe I ever learned the official ruling for how one measures one's race time when waylaid by a kitty for 10+ minutes right in the middle. Clearly, a grievous omission in the bylaws!

And that is the great tale I had to tell you all. Here is the much less important fandom stuff:
  • Exchanges due in July/August ([community profile] fandom5k, [community profile] caseficexchange, [community profile] nonconex, [community profile] justmarriedexchange, Terrible Temperature Troubles flash, hAPPy birthday flash, [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, FightingAsForeplayFlash + mystery pinch-hits and treats): 18/18 shall remain my final count! I did a bunch of proofing last week, and there are a bunch of reveals below. There's only one fic left in this list that isn't at least in go-live anon status, and I will edit that one this week just to get this batch cleared out.

  • Cool stuff I got! ❤️
  • And then I bunch of stuff that I wrote has now revealed:

    • Brick and Bone: My assignment for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, The Haunting of Hill House, Nell & Hill House, some horror/haunting to get me in the mood for Halloween. This is the second thing I've written for this fandom, and I've had great fun with the genre both times!

    • Whose Eyes?: A pinch hit I picked up for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, Dial M for Murder, Margot's trauma post-movie. The second thing I've written for this movie, and I really liked the way this drabble turned out!

    • The True Lord of the Rings: A treat for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, and the first BNHA fic I've finished! Just how do you make wedding rings for pro heroes? In this drabble, I will... 😝 I really like BNHA for fun/interesting worldbuilding stuff, so I jumped on the worldbuilding prompt I saw to treat and had tons of fun!

    • A Strategic Miscalculation: A treat for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, Bakugo/Deku from BNHA, more of me playing with outsider POV, a mix of humor and angst (who, me? humor?).

    • Even Odds: A treat for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, Bakugo/Deku from BNHA again, this one more straight-up humor and dedicated to all those who, like me, cannot tell when those two are flirting or fighting. 😝

    • The Fine Art of Anniversary Gifts: A treat for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan from Guardian - priest, and yup! I'm still writing them super-horny! And I'm not planning to stop soon. 😝

    • Tooth and Nail: My assignment from Fighting as Foreplay flash, Liu Mingyan/Sha Hualing from SVSSS - MXTX. A fun new femslash pairing! And, really, they both deserve to do all the cool adventure stuff, now that the boys are too busy flirting over tea parties to get the real work done. 😝

  • Exchanges due in September/October ([community profile] enemiestoloversex, [profile] cuppajoexhange, [community profile] sexpollenplus, [community profile] ficinabox + mystery pinch-hits and treats + future sign-ups): I am declaring myself at 1/13. Allow me to explain! First, I finished the 1 thing (hooray!). Second, I've finally decided how I'm going to treat [community profile] ficinabox for my tally: I'm assigned to the equivalent of 10k, which could be broken up into any number of assignments/recipients, given swaps. Therefore, I'm going to declare each 1k equivalent a different 'assignment', for 10 assignments in total. So 10 of the 13 assignments on that tally are FIAB content. Honestly, given how much I tend to go overboard, I suspect a number for those '1k assignments' will end up bigger/longer than the 1k minimum, but that is the only sane way I could think of to track my progress. Once I actually get my assignments + swaps, I'll probably adjust it accordingly (e.g. if I only have 5 assignments of 2k each, I'll call it 5 instead of 10). But, for now, I think this pretty accurately reflects the percentage of my time that will need to go into FIAB. Goal-wise this week, I'd like to get to 3/13, so basically finish my 2 assignments that aren't FIAB, to completely clear up my slate. (We haven't gotten [community profile] sexpollenplus assignments yet, but they should be out later today!) And the second goal is that I already know several unusual FIAB mediums I'm going to engage with (either assignment, PH, or treats), so I'm making some initial efforts to set up some of the things I'll need (tools, skins, etc.) this week since, once assignments are out, I'll need to do 2k equivalent per week to make deadline. And, finally, I am very tempted by Come in a Flash: I need to decide whether I'm signing up this week and, if so, write my fic.

  • Upcoming potential exchanges: [community profile] fffx, [community profile] ififitsifics, and [community profile] trickortreatex are all in nominations. [community profile] yuletide_admin & [personal profile] amperslashexchange nominations are coming up soon, too. I'm not signing up for [community profile] fandomgiftbasket but plan to check out the requests. I'm not allowing myself to commit to anything else until FIAB assignments are out and I have a better sense of how much time I'll have, though.

  • Exchanges beyond the current Sept/Oct time period are: [community profile] au5k & [community profile] highadrenalineexchange.

  • Still nothing to report on Femslash Salad Bar...

  • I'm nearly at the end of BNHA S6: I'm almost caught up! I should be maybe not by this week, but end of next week most likely. And then I have to go back and check out the movies, because I've been reliably informed that they don't completely suck the way most anime movies do. I do not know what I'll do once I no longer have my daily dose of Bakugo's shouty face. Probably wait for S8 to come out, the way everyone else is. 😝

  • Wen Guan by Qi Xiao Huangshu - I didn't read a word of it, oops! Oh well, eventually I'll have more time.

  • I finally got the second book in The Goblin Emperor universe, The Witness for the Dead, from the library! And...I haven't started it yet, because I was busy with other things this weekend, lol. But I hope to start it today!

  • Still waiting until post-BNHA to plan my horror line-up. If nothing else, I've got a number of things left over in my queue from last year.

Whew, that's a lot!

Goals for this week: 1) Final edit of the one outstanding July/August reveal. 2) Finish 2 Sept/Oct assignments. 3) Get tools/skins set up for planned FIAB mediums. 4) More BNHA! 5) Finish The Witness for the Dead.

End of August totals: I'm now at 193K for the year so, lol, I will definitely make 200K for the year. Do I aim for 250K (or even 300K)? I will think about it. 78 works revealed for the year so far! I wonder if I might hit 100 there? It seems possible, and that might be another yearly goal. 😮
